The Proforest Initiative Annual Training Programme will take place in Oxford from 10 to 14 September 2012. Now in its 11th year, this acclaimed programme provides comprehensive training on the latest sustainability issues in natural resource management and on tools to promote responsible production and purchasing in forestry and agricultural supply chains.

SHARP partnership website launched

The Smallholders Acceleration and REDD+ Programme (SHARP) is a multi-stakeholder partnership working with the private sector to support smallholders with the triple goal of improving rural livelihoods, increasing yields and reduce deforestation. The programme, of which the Proforest Initiative is one of the leading partners, has now launched its website.

Supporting Nestlé’s global implementation of Responsible Sourcing Guidelines for sugar

Proforest is now working with Nestlé, the world's largest food and nutrition company, to develop and implement their Responsible Sourcing Guidelines (RSGs) for sugar. The guidelines incorporate environmental and social criteria and complement Nestlé's 'Creating Shared Value' objectives. The first version of the RSGs has now been developed, and Proforest is currently commencing the process of working directly with Nestlé's suppliers to support them in the complementation of the RSGs.

Proforest to commence with RSPO Africa Roadshow

The Proforest Initiative, working together with an alliance of partners, has received funding to carry out a capacity building programme in Africa to raise awareness about the RSPO guidelines and the HCV concept among key stakeholders in West and Central Africa. The programme will commence with a series of events in Liberia, Ghana and Gabon in May and June 2012.
