Decarbonising to invest in agriculture: the insetting debate at SPCW 2026

At São Paulo Climate Week 2026, Proforest and WWF-Brazil hosted an event exploring the potential of insetting to decarbonise Forest, Land and Agriculture (FLAG) value chains in Brazil. The discussion brought together representatives from companies, organisations and initiatives working at the intersection of climate, agriculture and finance to explore why now is the right time to integrate insetting into corporate strategies and public policies.

Nestlé and CJ Selecta presented their approaches towards Net Zero, highlighting forest restoration and conservation efforts. CEBDS addressed the remaining challenges around MRV and adapting global methodologies to the Brazilian context, reinforcing the need to prioritise insetting within the sector. WWF presented a new report on decarbonising Brazil’s soy supply chain, highlighting how the quality of Brazil’s land-use change monitoring data, particularly significant given that land-use change is the sector’s main source of emissions, represents a concrete opportunity to advance the decarbonisation agenda. IDH noted that, even when carbon is not the starting point for its initiatives, there is significant potential for insetting to scale up and strengthen established efforts. Terion shared its approach to carbon in Brazilian agriculture, emphasising the importance of linking the issue to incentives for producers and water-related co-benefits.

Beyond sharing experiences and data, the event reinforced the importance of creating spaces for dialogue on the topic, bringing together different actors across the value chain to collectively advance solutions for decarbonising Brazilian agriculture.
